Pass Plus Course

Congratulations! You have passed your driving test, but don’t be fooled into thinking that your learning stops there. As drivers, we are always learning, encountering new situations, some potentially dangerous to both ourselves and others.

What is pass plus?

The Pass Plus scheme is a DSA driven course, which is aimed at giving newly qualified drivers the opportunity to learn new skills on roads (such as motorways — yes you are now entitled to drive on them!), in darkness and in poor weather conditions.

How long is the course?

The course is a minimum of six hours in length.

What is on the syllabus?

The  syllabus takes the student into areas of:-

· Town driving

· All—weather driving

· Rural road driving (easy around Kendal!)

· Night driving

· Dual carriageways

· Motorways

What’s in it for me?

Apart from the safety benefits of having extra professional instruction, looking at more advanced driving skills, certain insurance companies involved with the scheme will offer you a discount on your car insurance.

It’s very expensive, having just paid for lessons for my L test!

NO, it's not!!  Most students will recover a sizable proportion of the cost (if not the whole cost) of the course on the savings made on their insurance.

In addition to this, the Safer Roads for Cumbria project is currently funding £100 towards the cost of the course for young drivers meeting their criteria. See here!

Is there a test at the end?

No, just a successful completion of the course with a higher standard of driving than the L test requires, is all that is required.
